FOTO PRONTO (03) is one photo of a selection of seven slides from a 20-part series of slides that were found in a box on a Berlin flea market. The recordings were made in Mexico, probably in the 1970s . On one of the slide frame we find the imprint "FOTO PRONTO", the only indication of the origin of the images. The slides show a pronounced decomposition process in the emulsion layer, presumably due to contact with a liquid. The slides were scanned, besides a brightness and contrast adjustment, no change to the recordings were made. Born in Bad Steben, Oberfranken. Lives and works in Berlin. Matthias Fitz studied experimental media design at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 2003 he received the master's degree from Prof. Maria Vedder. Since 1997, his works - video and sound installations, one-channel video works and photography - have been shown at international festivals and exhibitions. He received various art prizes and scholarships. In his works, Matthias Fitz explores places of movement, instability, imbalance in seemingly stable systems. He observe things when changing from one order to another, during their transition from one state to another. His photographic work is an approximation of the utopia of the "innocent eye" formulated by John Ruskin in the 19th century. Through reduction and blurring, it brings perception closer to its origin, the "pure, unimpaired, stimulus".
