We often, when looking at the lives of others, discount the impact that seemingly small factors have on the lives of people. Camp Mowglis, School of the Open on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire accounts for a few cumulative years in my life, yet it looms over every other institution that I have known in my life for the impact it has had on the person I would ultimately become. It was the brotherhood, the beauty of the world, the value of cooperation and teamwork, that would become the guideposts of my entire life. This image was taken on the very first day of camp, long after I had become an adult. Yet the joy of that very first swim on a hot June day brought back all that this place had given to me.

Wayne D. King is an accomplished photographer and imaginative artist. His work can be found in the collections of a broad range of people including Livingston Taylor, Koko Taylor, Richard Merritt, Bill Bradley, W. Richard West Jr, Bruce Babbitt, Bill Clinton, Adhiambo Odaga, Bill Russell, Valerie Jarrett, James West, and others. His images are a celebration of life, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into what he calls "a dreamlike quintessentialism" designed to spark an emotional response. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King takes the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth to where truth meets passion, hope, and dreams.
