When designing her etchings, Annemarie Petri uses a collage technique creating complex and often surprising compositions. She then makes the drawing on a single plate and etches it in stages. The etchings are multi-color prints. By 'painting' a color on the plate each time and then printing it, a sense of depth is created. Her sources of inspiration include: 17th-century engravings in the spirit of Piranesi, natural science, literature and, predominantly, the romantic desire to create an imaginary world of her own. This desire is clearly visible in all series: Atlantis, Genesis, and Natural Science.
