Laser cut wood block on Fabriano tiepolo white 100% Cotton paper (56x76), self-made ink from: Kanuka flower, elderberry berries and Kaka beak flower. This is one piece from a body of work that represents factors influencing the health of bees in Aotearoa New Zealand, embedded in the ongoing discourse of urgently required sustainability. My aim was to explore and create a visual message about our ecology’s health. Aspects like climate change, global warming and are global concerns and the noticeable effects are becoming an ever increasingly factor for everyone. I wanted to examine this more closely. I chose to focus on the macro, the small species as a sign of the environment, He Tohu Tahu Toura. “Using native and exotic plants as the base material for her experimental practice, Eason endeavoured to align methodology and message in paper-based works featuring varied approaches to printmaking, mark making and dye-application.
