About The Artwork
Started as a bust of no-one in particular, as I saw this piece develop I was drawn more and more to the fortitude in his expression. I glazed him with an undercoat of grey and a top-coat of a red that I knew would run. The result surpassed my expectations. Mounting him on an old piece of shattered concrete was then an obvious choice. I hope viewers will see the senselessness of the terrible event but also the courage and determination of the people of New York when faced with such horror. His wistful if battered stare out to a possible better future echoes my own hope that something good may emerge from the senseless horror.
