This work is one of a limited series of seven minimalist 3D panels made in 2017.

(To me this work is sculptural. Collage is the description that best fits this site but it is not how I would describe this work.)

Inspired by the colour field paintings of the 40s and 50s, these original works were made by applying acrylic paint and rubbing charcoal on decommissioned firehose, then attaching them to wood boards in an abstract configuration.

The title suggests our civic responsibility to respond to the alarm signals about rising temperatures on the planet and climate change.

Thus, I employ the building material as metaphor, ironically reclaiming hose that carries water and the wood that burns in my art making.

The piece simultaneously suggests order and conformity (repeating stripes) and calamity (hot colours, charcoal), or rather the paradox of the climate crisis era in which we find ourselves.

Bold aesthetically and politically, best suited for large spaces.
