Annabell Ng’s artistic journey began with an exploration of new mediums and sculptural forms. Her recent works comprise of flora and fauna around her, grounding her practice in the natural world. By collecting and preserving elements such as leaves, flowers, tree barks, twigs and insects, she allows them to become metaphors for the reality of impermanence. These natural materials, subject to decay and transformation, reflect the passage of time, with fragility and change becoming an integral part of the artistic process. She wanders from a young age about nature, arts and musicality. These experiences resonate with the Goethean philosophy, where wandering fosters a deep reverence for the world. Knowledge of herbalism rooted in her family venture instilled in her a view of nature as both a reflection of reality and a keeper of time. Growing and fading are not just irreversible of time but reflections of existence. This idea is inspired by her traveling experiences across diverse landscapes and cultures that further deepen her insight in the dialogue of familiar and the unfamiliar in her memories. Rhythms of breathing, balance and neutrality are presented with cyclical and duality forms. When she immerses herself in the art studio, she seeks balance and unity, creating space for viewers to engage with her quiet interconnections between nature, time, and life.
