Born in Hong Kong, as the daughter of a tailor, I graduated from Central St. Martins,
U of Arts London in 2009 with a MA in “Apply Imagination”, and in 1999 with a
Degree of Fine Arts in U of Lethbridge, whereby paintings follow western art world
both in technique and in subject matter and materials. My art incorporates
elements of sewing, and patchwork influenced by my mother in different eras in the
work. On the one hand, painting techniques from the surrealist period, from which I
adopt the power of unconscious and childhood dreams. On the other, growing up in
the late 1980s with the Nipponese Neo-pop generation, I borrow contemporary
popular elements of expression, such as Japanese “anime” (animation) and “manga”
(comics) and American pop art. I rework this diversity of influences into myriad
artistic media and formats, artwork ranging from paintings reminiscent of cartoons
to figurine sculptures, giant inflatable balloons, handcrafted accessories and other
limited-edition merchandise.
