I am Gianni De Clercq a Belgian artist. Primarily I work with oil paint, and make images that have a combination of beauty and strangeness, I like contradictions. Sometimes leaving the viewer a bit confused. The using of my own source material, lighting, subjects ect. is very important to me. I want to create something new, something thats completely created by myself. Every handling and subject has a thought out meaning in my work. Nothing happens by accident.
The way of painting is loose and spontaneous inspired by the old Flemish and Dutch painters because this where I grew up and that culture is part of me. It's disrespectful to the artists before us to throw away their knowledge or simplify it. But the images itself should be new.
