"I believe that surrounding yourself with inspiring art enhances quality of life, just like being in nature. I do abstract paintings because they leave space for individual interpretation, just like great instrumental music does. I'm fascinated by evocative, sculptural shapes and textures found in nature which also inspired modernist and brutalist architecture before – blending the organic with the geometric, intuition with construction. With my background in graphic design of more than 20 years, working as art director for brands or magazines like AD architectural digest, I'm a big fan of interior design and architecture – I love to see my original artworks enhancing contemporary spaces, becoming a individual element of good interior design and architecture, which I both admire. Beeing a musician and jazz lover, I want to combine spontaneity and refinement in my paintings – to create unique and iconic compositions."

(Ludwig) Raphael Wendt was born in a musical family, surrounded by music and all things art. He loved to draw and paint since he was a kid and studied graphic design and visual communication in Freiburg, Germany. He graduated in 1998. Raphael has a background of more than 20 years in graphic design and art direction for magazines, books, brands and institutions, which also heavily informs his artistic, personal work. He works and lives in Berlin.

Raphael presents his artistic work to the public since 2024 and joined Saatchi Art in 2025. His artworks already got attention by collectors in Europe and Middle East, exhibitions are in the planning. Raphael is exited to present his artistic work to a new generation of international art and design collectors, galleries and interior designers looking for fresh and exiting contemporary artists.
