Yash Chawardol Painting is a continuous process, much like life itself. There is no definitive start or end—just a flow of thoughts, colors, and forms unfolding layer by layer. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas and paper, the fast-drying nature of the medium allows for an intuitive and experimental approach. Every painting develops over time, shaped by both intentional choices and unexpected accidents. Some of these surprises bring joy, while others challenge the process, but each contributes to the evolution of the work. Abstraction allows for an emotional depth that goes beyond representation. Silence, particularly inner silence, has been central to the themes I explore. During a Vipassana retreat, the external quiet made me aware of the chaos within. As the days passed, the realization came that silence is not merely the absence of sound but a state of being. This idea has shaped the way my paintings take form—layer upon layer, revealing and concealing, much like thoughts settling into stillness. Reading has also shaped this approach. The process of reading, forgetting, and remembering over time is similar to painting. A single stroke on the canvas might seem disconnected at first, but as the layers build, a visual language emerges. Repetition plays a significant role in my practice, a method that echoes the teachings of a mentor whose dedication to explaining concepts through constant reiteration left a lasting impression. The act of painting is an exploration of rhythm, movement, and stillness. Each work is part of a larger journey—never fully complete, always evolving. The aim is not to impose meaning but to create a space where the viewer can experience their own interpretation, much like how silence holds different meanings for different people.
