Douglas Hartman

I have been happily painting in my beautiful studio at Metro Art Studios, in Bridgeport CT, since we opened our doors in Oct. 2021.
My work is focused upon the spatial relationship of geometric forms and how color next to color relates both emotionally and in terms of weight or depth of color. I am motivated by the beauty and mystery of color as well as simple geometry and the harmony that lines and shapes can become dimensionally, within the rectangle.
I make lots of drawings, exploring geometric environments that lines can create. I choose a drawing and then let my senses and intuition find colors for the shapes and then build a color palate.
My many years working as a textile designer in NYC refined my relationship with color and it's creative application to commercial products or the fine arts of painting or drawing.
I have dedicated myself to focusing solely on painting the last few years and will continue to explore and express myself with brush and oil paint on canvas or paper.
My paintings look great in modern, streamlined environments, but also when juxtaposed within classic decor make a sophisticated and elegant statement.
