Alexa Garbarino

I was born and raised in Northern California. My love of photography was ignited when my father gave me a camera for my 13th birthday and built me a darkroom in our basement - I have been shooting ever since.

I began my professional career in Los Angeles, shooting for the music and movie industries, before moving to New York City where I created cover art for the publishing houses.

My own book of photography, RIPE: The Essence of the Pregnant Nude, came out in 2010 and won awards from IPA: Professional Photographer of the Year and PX3: Prix de la Photographie for Fine Art Book.

I have been focusing on personal projects for the last few years including my series BETTER DAYS, photographing historic farms and ranches in Point Reyes National Seashore and BEAUTIFUL ARTIFACTS, where I document discarded wedding gowns found at garage sales and thrift stores.

My most recent collections, GAUDI and FLOTSAM & JETSAM, explore patterns created through the amalgamation of shapes and textures found in natural and urban landscapes.
