Lorraine Smart

Originally from England I am an Australian artist based on the south coast of New South Wales. My adopted homelands colours and feelings are deeply etched into who I am and this is reflected in my work. Living on the coast between the escarpment and the ocean I draw inspiration from the bright colours of the ocean and beach life to the one side and the rich multi-hued colours of the bush to the other.
I state unapologetically that I am a total colourist and often employ the use of saturated colour and draw inspiration from my surroundings. I create tension through my wish to paint very intuitively while loving structure and sharp crisp lines. I work in acrylics and mixed media.
I am drawn to the works of Howard Hodgkins, David Hockney, Gerhardt Richter and Brian Ruttenberg - colourists all.

Having taken many courses over the years I enrolled with the famous Californian artist Nicholas Wilton for his Creative Visionary Programme in 2020. This course has completely changed the way I create art and has taken me to the next level both technically and creatively.

I have shown my work in numerous exhibitions in Australia and have sold quite a lot of my art internationally through Saatchi Art.
