Maggie Mackenzie

I am an abstract painter based in Sydney, Australia. My passions are texture, surface pattern and colour. I want the paintings to burst with energy and life, to draw you in and out. Shapes take hold and I use whatever I can find to paint with; my paintbrushes lie alongside expired credit cards and library cards, sponges, forks, set squares and rollers.

I want people to have the urge to touch my work, for them to explore the details and texture. A curve leading to a rough edge, a mark from the top of a bottle appearing leaf like and organic, a person emerging from the shadows, a city viewed from the clouds.

My biggest joy comes from hearing people’s interpretations of my work. Seeing their imaginations soar and their inquisitiveness come forward. That is the best part of the whole process.
