Born and raised in New York City, I paint on computer, and in oils in my Brooklyn studio. My focus is fine art, after a career in photography and graphic design.
Color powers my art. Composition guides my viewer, making connections, revealing surprises.
At the root of my abstractions lies something in the natural or human world. The title hints at my inspiration, with room for others to connect personally.
My imagination has opened to shapes and images I would never have seen, by painting digitally on a computer.
I thank the 21st century for the tools.
My art draws on several disciplines. Graphic design developed my use of strong composition, metaphor and humor. Photography honed my appreciation for form and light, and an eye for fleeting moments.
High School of Music & Art in Manhattan.
BFA from Syracuse University, Cum Laude, learning oil painting from Robert Goodnough, printmaking from Emile Gelé. MA in Computer Art from the NY Institute of Technology, With Distinction.
Later study with the masters, Philippe Halsman and Dennis Stock inspired my photography career.
My work has appeared in New York Magazine, Life, New Jersey Monthly, L'Express, Esquire and various art books.
My fine art prints and paintings have been exhibited in group shows on Long Island at the Art League (Juror, Burt Silverman), Gallery North, (Juror, Philip Pearlstein), the Huntington Petite Gallery (Juror, Kevin McEvoy). And in New York City at the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Annual Exhibition, Pen & Brush, Williamsburg Arts & Historical Center, Brooklyn Museum GO Studio Tour, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, Saint Mark's Church in-the-Bowery, the Multi-media Arts Gallery, and a solo show at the Soho Photo Gallery.
A winner in the 2011 ArtSlant Showcase Competition Cycle for painting.
