Darya Yashmetova

I am Darya Yashmetova, an experimental artist from Almaty (Kazakhstan), where I spent my childhood surrounded by the vibrant colors of the mountains and a rich tapestry of cultural influences. From a very young age, I was drawn to painting and sought new avenues of self-expression, blending various styles and techniques to convey my inner energy. In 2015, I tried the acrylic pour method for the first time, which introduced me to expressive color flows and spontaneous abstractions. Every new project is an opportunity to expand the boundaries of perception by working with oil and watercolor, as well as using a palette knife to create multidimensional textures.

In 2017, I brought my inspiration to city streets by painting large-scale murals on building facades. I love the creative freedom that comes with seeing vivid colors and flowing lines come to life in an urban environment. At the same time, I continue to work with pencil and pastel sketches, capturing the lightness of initial outlines. In 2019, I delved deeper into combining classical and modern artistic techniques, striving to find harmony between form and content.

My artistic education began in 2010, when I enrolled in the Almaty Academy of Arts. There, I discovered classical painting styles and realized the importance of composition and color theory in creating an expressive image. In 2012, I continued my studies at the independent training center “New Horizons,” where I explored mixed techniques and experimented with various textures. In 2015, I completed a specialized digital art course that helped me combine traditional methods with modern technology.

In 2019, I presented my works at the group exhibition “Fusion of Styles” in one of the city’s cultural centers, showcasing a series of paintings created with watercolor and oil techniques. In 2021, I held a small solo exhibition titled “From Glare to Strokes,” emphasizing the variety of tools I use—from brushes to palette knives. Each exhibition gives me the opportunity to share my inner world and observe how viewers respond to bold color choices and experiments with form.
