Betty Wachsstock Schonfeld was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1954. She studied at the Academy of Arts “Bezalel” in Jerusalem, in 1972. Back in Antwerp, she studied sculpture with Prof. Jan de Schutter, from the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Back in Israel, she pursued her studies at the “Avni Academy of Arts” in Tel Aviv. In 1988 she received the Price of Excellency from the International Art Competition in New York. In 1995 she participated to the Sothebys MASKS International Auction in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Antwerp, Tel Aviv. In 1995 she realised the trophee that was offered to the Antwerp Municipality by Sportsclub Maccabi, for its 75th anniversary. In 2005 her sculpture Continents was selected and exhibited at the 2nd Beijing International Art Biennal. In 2006 her sculpture Encounters was selected by the 2008 Olympic Landscape Sculpture Designs Contest in Beijing. B. Wachsstock has realised several monumental works: Neshama- at the Jewish Museum of Belgium Samson- at Middelheim Hospital in Antwerp, Belgium Jacob s Ladder- at the Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv, Israel The Tree of Life- for the Home of the Centrale for Jewish Charity, in Antwerp Betty Wachsstock lives with her family in Petah Tikwa,Israel, where she works and teaches, and is exhibiting her works at several galleries in Israel and abroad.
