A stalled car at night. Two men lean into the open hood while a third holds a flashlight and turns to the viewer, the moment suspended between repair and threat. Beyond the wall a nearby tree burns and the distant hillside glows. Dissonance is central to the work, and the focus is intentionally pla...

About the Artist

Janelle Schneider

United States

I am a multidisciplinary visual artist, working in acrylics, 3D digital, and textiles. Primarily self-taught as a painter, I have spent most of my life working with paint and image-making. My work has been described as magical realism, and often weaves quiet, strange, or impossible details into ordinary scenes in dreamy, slightly uncanny ways. At the heart of my practice is an affinity with liminality, which I have explored over time through abstraction and, more recently, through a representational focus on ordinary moments and the spaces where reality and perception begin to diverge. My current work in progress explores dimensional tactility and acrylics, bringing together fabric textiles, sewing, and decorative pattern design.

I hold a BFA in Graphic Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art and have maintained a dedicated studio practice alongside a 20+ year career as a digital artist; first in the San Francisco Bay Area and now in the Pacific Northwest.
My painting New Coat was featured in Studio Visit Magazine, Volume 52. I am also one of the contributing artists to The Science Tarot (2010), with fourteen original paintings for the Suit of Wands. In recent years, I've participated in Washington County Open Studios (2023 and 2024), continue to engage with the local arts community.

My work has been exhibited in galleries and art events throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as in the San Francisco Bay and Santa Monica areas, and is held in private collections internationally.
