Carlos Romano (b. 7 February 1985) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, music, dance, poetry, philosophy, and writing. His work is marked by a deep commitment to emotion, symbolism, and the exploration of the human subconscious, creating a language that is both visceral and universal. In dance, Romano has developed a unique Afro-contemporary style that fuses the musicality and folklore of East Africa, Mali, and Angola with modern and urban dance influences from North America. His painting and sculpture reveal a figurative yet singular approach, where the central pursuit is to embody emotions and subconscious states with intensity and originality. In music, he merges European classical traditions—drawing on instruments such as violin, choir, and orchestral arrangements—with African percussion and folklore, creating symphonic works that transcend cultural boundaries. Romano is currently developing large-scale projects that combine painting, video, dance, music, poetry, and installation. Among them are: Afrophilia - Epiphanies of a Semba, Prelude – The Extension of Soul, People from My Land, Symptom Unknown. He is also writing a philosophical work, Afrophilia: Essay of a Philosophy, which addresses themes of ethics, aesthetics, morality, God, existentialism, love and its apocalypse, and the role of philosophy in human life. Parallel to this, he is constructing a mythological universe titled “Afrophilia”, multimodal creation that expands across painting, sculpture, dance, music, literature, and theatre. His works have entered private collections and international institutions, including acquisitions by renowned museums.
