I remember reading Haruki Murakamis Wind up bird chronicles years ago. There was a significant part of the story where the main character spends some time sitting at the bottom of the well contemplating. I am a Lithuanian visual artist and a musician currently residing in Musselburgh, Scotland. Being a musician as well as a painter I’m endlessly inspired by the rhythms and melodies occurring in nature. Living by the sea I daily observe the rapid change of colours in the shadows of crashing waves, reflections of light on every single grain of wet sand, bubbles and splashes of the seafoam. I draw my colour palette from watching all of that as well as examining seaweeds and seashells being washed ashore. I aim to evoke imagery of nature and sealife in my oil paintings. Building on ideas of pointillism, post impressionism and free play I’m more concerned with suggesting motion and space rather than depicting objects accurately. I apply my brushstrokes in a thought through manner yet with a free hand, allowing them to come out effortlessly.
