Self taught, I discovered art late when I was diagnosed with severe bilateral proliferative retinopathy. It's been quite a journey getting to the point of acceptance with this diagnosis. As a type 1 diabetic I always knew it was very possible, but I didn't think it would affect me mentally, emotionally, physically. My painting is not only showing the world what I see with peripheral blindness and how I see its beauty now, but it is also an escape. I can lose myself for hours at a time, or if the mood is an awful one I can simply sling paint until my anger is gone on the canvas in front of me.
