Encaustic is painting with molten pigmented wax. The encaustic medium is bees wax mixed with Damar resin. The resin raises the melting point of the wax to around 180 degrees. I now use encaustic wax and bees wax together and get different effects due to the different melting points of the two materials. In addition to the two waxes, I use pigmented oil sticks, ink, and even bubble wrap to get textures and patterns.
Some of my work has been compared to Hubble Telescope images while others give a sense of being in a magical world under the sea. In 2017, I focused on responding to the Northern California fires through my art. I never know where the work is headed when I start out. Through the process of creation the image reveals itself.
I also do photographic work but this work also leans towards the abstract.
