The project “Sargasso” (Seaweed) is a meditation about duality that can be recognized in all features of life, in all ways of being, in all rules of society. Born in 1949 San Sebastian, Spain, lives in Netherlands and France - Large Conceptual Installations - New projects each year - Light & heavy materials - Unconventional techniques developing works passing over the borders of sculpture and painting - Project books with special layouts - Active in many countries. My esthetic standpoint is based on the duality between life and death. Therefore in each of my projects I choose materials out of two types, either light translucent or heavy opaque ones. Among the first ones are light textile materials, as gauze, rice paper, tracing paper, organza, the second type includes lead, sea salt, wood, charcoal, porcelain and stone. I have developed my projects in the numerous places where I lived; they reflect my nourishment with the local cultures as well as the spiritual significance of the installation site. Six or seven process steps make up every project: from identifying the concept and suitable installations spaces, through the transformation of poor materials into poetic objects, to the final design and the production of books about the realization of the art work.
