Born in Pamplona and graduate in Barcelona, Javier Aristu is a visual (and martial) artist particularly interested in natural tensions, of course between attraction and repulsion but also between idea and form, form and color, color and light, light and shadow, ink and light, letters and numbers, pictures and words, words and music, music and time, time and space, energy and matter, chaos and order, reality and fiction, chance and destiny, analysis and synthesis, cryptic and obvious, choice and renounce, natural and sophisticated, inside and outside, part and whole, nothing and thing, thing and think, think and feel, conscious and unconscious, memory and oblivion, animal and human, female and male, group and individual, freedom and safety, joy and sadness, madness and sanity, meaningful and nonsense or even that and this. Aristu plays with photography, graphics, video, audio, objects, writings or series and his work can be categorized into two main areas, one photographic inspired by looking and other conceptual produced by thinking. Among his most conscious influences are Bruce Nauman, Piero Manzoni, Stanley Kubrick, Elliott Erwitt, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Tibor Kalman, Sophie Calle, Luis Buñuel, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Monty Python, while the unconscious ones are countless.
