Marcia G. Yerman is based in New York City. Throughout her art practice, she has explored a wide range of mediums, including drawing, printmaking, painting, collage, constructions, sewing, sculpture, and photography.
While working in these formats, her examination of personal and political themes has been intertwined, encompassing the role of women in society, cultural identity, human rights, political issues, and the environment.
Yerman uses diaristic and narrative imagery to document and interpret her emotional and psychological experiences. Working in the tradition of Frida Kahlo and Max Beckmann, her art chronicles relationships with family members, animals, within the social order, and self-portraits. The domestic realm is repeatedly observed and evaluated.
Her work combines formal and abstract elements, and her pieces are filled with personal iconography, both narrative and symbolic. In addition to allegory and figuration, an intrinsic part of her style is the bold and expressive use of color.
