Nicolas Vasse

French artist born in 1979, I live and work in Paris. Studies of philosophy, writing, rediscovery of painting through Gustave Moreau and Van Gogh first, impressionists then, then Nicolas De Staël, Pierre Soulages, Zao Wou-Ki, Georges Mathieu, Mark Rothko, Hans Hartung, Jackson Pollock, Serge Saunière, Fabienne Verdier...traditional Chinese painting too. Many paths, experiments, supports, mediums and materials have shaped my look over the years. Today I mainly use acrylic and pure pigments. It took me this long time to deeply grasp the poetic, existential, vital importance of the quasi-mineral trace of the material deposited on the canvas. The rooting continues a little more every day.
