I’ve been painting since my early teens, but only recently taken the plunge and gone freelance and now teach at my studio at Hanbury Road Craft Centre. Until recently I ran a pop-up gallery called The Canalside Studios in St Andrew’s Square, Droitwich, in the former MeatBox.
I mostly paint in watercolours though I also use acrylics, inks and occasionally oils. I also enjoy using aquarelle (watercolour) pencils and pastels.
I find watercolour is a great medium and well-suited to capturing the transient light and colour of the English countryside. Pastels are great for animals and portraits and I use acrylics for larger canvasses. I often use pen and wash, especially if I am doing pictures of buildings or to give the image an extra ‘uumph’ ! Sometimes I add other items to paintings, such as petals and leaves. Salt and sand also add an interesting dimension.
I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. Visit my page on Facebook and search for Karens-Studio and click ‘Like’ to follow me to see what I’m up to, or visit my web page at

After spending several years running a fabric shop with my family, I went to Mid Cheshire College of Art in the UK. On graduation, I worked in the design studio of a childrens clothing manufacturer and then at Ilford Photographic. I went on to work in marketing for several large companies in the UK.
