Entertainment Weekly Print

I met Storm in 2016 and she's the first transexual I photographed. After a few shots it was her idea to make this pose with an old copy of 'Entertainment Weekly' that was lying around, and there's a humour about it that captured our encounter. There is often a shock value with imagery of trans people, which I strive to eradicate through technique: by blending the familiar with the unfamiliar I hope to allow those who might normally feel uncomfortable with the subject matter to engage with it. In this particular piece, it is not possible to tell where the digital manipulation (layering of textures, painting effects and colour manipulation) techniques end the non-digital techniques (collage, acrylic paints, charcoal pencil and application of clay) begin.
