ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Painting from my 20th/21st Century Music-Opera series. This work is inspired by György Kurtag, Kafka Fragmente, 1986. The chosen Kafka text-fragment inspiration reads that “ the good ones go ahead at the same pace whilst unbeknown to them the ‘others’ dance around them the dance of time”. This is written in German (original text) far right in painting. The main head/face portrait is after a Franz Kafka photo. The second face beneath represents the alter-ego. The figures around dance the dance of time. The figure with violin bottom left is music. The figure/head in profile top right is song/the human voice with words from text pouring through. The painting expresses the idea of the Kafka Fragment; all that is positive and enriching to the world moves in the same direction with a common aim whilst unknown circumstances, hidden conditions subject only to the rhythm of Time that surround can thwart this progress. In other words intellectual order versus demonic chaos.
