ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Koi In The Lilypond 1 21/09/2021 51cm (W) x 41cm (H) x 1.5cm (D) By HSIN LIN Signed at front. Ready to hang. This artwork painted extended to all Sides. Textured Acrylic on triple primed gesso canvas, painted with palette knife and brushes. “I catch a flash of red-gold beneath the surface of the water, and realize that there are koi in the pond, massive, serene, and I wonder: are they dreams of fish, or fish who dream?”— Sarah Monette Artwork inspired by my memory of visiting a temple up the mountain with family in Hong Kong many years ago. There’s a big pond in the garden, I observed those red- golden big koi swimming peacefully in the lily pond, these koi seem happy, and must have lived many years to grow this big. I enjoyed the scene quietly, captured the magical scene with my eyes, and the memory is fresh just like it was yesterday. This artwork is also painted during the lockdown in Victoria as we are having it again. A special isolation diary that I wrote with my paintbrushes. Hope you enjoy this original artwork of mine. The latest piece of my animal series -THE VOICE OF NATURE -. Artwork inspired by nature in Bayswater, Melbourne, Victoria, Spring 2021. -HSIN LIN

HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia. In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning. Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-12 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential.
