I am interested in mark making, more acutely, marks that hold a narrative with the object and encourage exploration. I strive to find a language in making marks that can express ideas and symbolism that are relevant to each person. It is not evasive, rather I strive to make my use of marks as a guide to how the pieces are made and how to interpret each piece.
I embrace new technology as a tool to help generate different ways to present work. For me, new technology enables new marks and languages to present ideas in ways relevant today.
Some of my work involves using digital models that are cut into slices to reveal excerpts of the whole. In this way, the generation of marks is defined by the different technologies used to create the models.
Slices and transparency are a theme in my current work, allowing marks behind marks, interacting and relating with each other. Working in this way has developed a spatial need for some works to be sculptural but, as a passionate printmaker, I am equally drawn to layers in transparency, showing on paper how marks can work together to form images.
I use printmaking techniques such as lithography and relief processes alongside gum bichromate and gumoil alternative photography techniques...
