Victor Savchenko is a contemporary Belarusian artist who works in book art and easel graphics. He mainly works using the etching technique. Inspired by the ideas of artists from the Danube School, Viktor Savchenko strives to depict the world as an indivisible whole, filling in the space on the page with the details of natural textures. In several series of works, the artist has depicted the mythological creatures Odin, Fenrir, and Medusa in his own original style, but the series “Birder”, which consists of more than a dozen etchings in different formats, represents his most ambitious project yet. In developing the theme of man's natural origins, Viktor Savchenko has brought together the kingdoms of people, animals, and insects, thereby creating intricate labyrinths of meanings. Female figures framed by the wings of butterflies and dragonflies, bird nests entangled in tree branches, ravens and owls are brought together in a single mythological story. Viktor Savchenko's works are unique and original in their technical mastery of printmaking, their allegorical interpretations of beliefs and legends, their concision, and the clarity of their visual language.
