About The Artwork

Artist’s name: Martine Mooijenkind. Title of artwork: Materials : Collage on paper. Date created: 2020 Size :21x30 cm Signed front and back with signature. Artist motivation: This collage is a surreal exploration of the paradoxes of love. The collage uses a cut-out image of a human heart, which is the universal symbol of love, but also a vital organ that sustains life. The heart is divided into squares and rearranged in a disorderly manner, suggesting that love can be both chaotic and fragmented. The collage also features a text that reads “Listen, you are twice as right. I do believe my heart skipped a full beat”. The text is a contradictory statement, implying that the speaker is both affirming and negating their lover’s words. The text also conveys a sense of shock and disbelief, as if the speaker has experienced a sudden and unexpected change in their relationship. The collage is a creative and captivating expression of the complexities and contradictions of love, which can be both exhilarating and devastating. The collage challenges the viewer to question their own assumptions and experiences of love, and to listen to their own heartbeat.
