About The Artwork

Crazy Billy The Artist's creative journey began with a fascination for collage art. In an interview, held in the bustling city of Los Angeles, she revealed her love for flipping through Triple X newspapers found in kiosks around the city. She would eagerly search for the coveted classified ads in the back of these free publications. With great precision and care, she would delicately cut out images of striking women and incorporate them into her collage works, creating intricate visual tapestries. It was her way of providing a "safe haven" for these alluring ladies, as if displaying them on a wall could shield them from the harsh realities of street life. That was 2007. Fast forward to 2020, during the pandemic, when the artist found inspiration in Andy Warhol's iconic photographs. Utilizing bold colors and abstract shapes, she expertly used charcoal to sketch six squares and rectangles. While sifting through her previous works of stencils, paintings, and prints, she stumbled upon a first edition copy of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf". For this particular piece, she incorporated sections of the book along with resonating lines from the play into her artwork. Some may gasp at the thought of cutting up a first edition book, but that is exactly what this artist has done. Staying true to her use of geometric shapes, she added pops of bright fluorescent colors with touches of gouache paint. The frames used for this collection were also repurposed from an antique shop; they had been discarded in a recycling bin but given new life through careful sanding, painting, and application of gold leaf by the artist. Each frame measures approximately 10" x 10" x 1" or 12" x 9" x 1". Enjoy this playful collection showcasing the artist's unique and imaginative style.
