Double Dancing Fold in Ochre Collage

From the series titled ‘Paper Aviary’, this minimal and dimensional mixed media work has a feeling of captured motion. The folded paper motifs appear frozen in a state of dance. Composed of hand-marbled paper, custom made by the artist, and reclaimed birch plywood, it is at once graphic and subtle, colorful and raw, dynamic and sculptural, geometric and playful. The piece is dimensional and tactile in that the butterfly-bird-folded-paper-like figures are raised and floating slightly above a cloudy ochre background and is finished under a smooth layer of encaustic wax. Encaustic art involves fusing heated beeswax and damar resin on the surface of the substrate. The results are a soft, barely opaque, molten surface full of nuance and character that catches the light. ⁣Beeswax encaustic is very archival. Care for an encaustic painting as you would any fine art painting. Signed on the back, and ready to hang on the wall with the included cleat, or can be framed by the collector.
