About The Artwork

Polaroid emulsion lift on watercolour paper. Original work. Currently exhibited at Creation Fine Arts, UK. Physical lift of Polaroid emulsions and layered to create this image. To create an emulsion lift, each individual Polaroid is shot on location, and then when the pieces are collected, you cut the borders from the image, submerge each one in warm water, until the adhesive behind the emulsion starts to bubble. With the help of a soft bristled brush the artist gently removes the picture area from the paper backing, taking care to remove all left over adhesive. With the help of a piece of submerged acetate, the artist then transfers the image to the transparent plastic, taking care that the corners do not roll over and the image doesn't crinkle more than required. Each piece is then transported to the paper, where the image is pushed into the paper surface via the acetate. After careful removal of the acetate sheet, the image is on the paper, and the artist then irons out any air and water bubbles with the paintbrush. This process is then repeated and repeated with drying time between layers.
