My collage series “From Here to Where” explores the idea of destination—more specifically, of our longing for exotic destinations and the emotions we imagine we will experience when we arrive at them. To create my collages, I cut words and images from periodicals and printed media and use them to create peaceful scenes from nature. When viewers look carefully and realize that the beautiful scene before them is created from words and images taken from the constant bombardment of messages we regularly overlook—and try to escape from through daydreaming and travelling, they are often surprised and delighted by the gentle subversion. Through my work I seek to give viewers a chance to slow down in the midst of daily busyness and consider how they are affected by messages, whether through TV and radio advertisements, printed periodicals, store displays, billboards, or social media and websites. I also want to challenge the viewer to disregard the images and messages and just observe the beauty and magnificence of nature. I want them to consider that it might be possible for them to have power over the images they seek to escape, but perhaps first only through recognizing the noise—then, hopefully, seeing through it and into a larger perspective.

My work defies simple categorization, riding an edge between abstraction and realism. The medium I choose for any given work is determined by the concept and the idea I wish to convey. My favored subjects are majestic natural landscapes, traditional folk art from Eastern Europe, as well as my view on situations that attract my attention. Often psychological leitmotifs drive my subject matter. I also rely on travel for inspiration. Upon return from a trip, I head straight to my studio while the impressions are still fresh. My creative process is similar to organic growth that emerges over time; it may take weeks or months to develop and complete each piece. My work has been included in a number of art exhibitions thought the US and internationally in Berlin and Romania. National venues include Katy Contemporary Art Museum, Katy, Texas; Fine Art Museum in Gadsden, Alabama; North Gallery Department of Art and Design of San Jacinta College, Houston, Texas; Nicolet Gallery at Nicolet College, Wisconsin; Lawndale Art Center, Houston, Texas; and Dacia Gallery, New York City, NY; among others. Additionally, my work has been selected for exhibitions by the National Association of Women Artists; Oil Painters of America; and National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. I participated in several International artist residencies in Romania and in Berlin, Germany, where I also participated in a public art intervention in East Berlin. I received several awards and honors, including a Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Art for my oil paintings. My work has been included in many publications including Houston Downtown Magazine, Houston Chronicle, Art Studio, Local Houston Magazine, ArtAscent Magazine, and Art Blocks Houston amongst other publications. I was selected among 79 artists of the United States to be published in the book Art Buzz “The 2014 Collection, Volume 7." Most recently, I have been recognized for my Ukrainian style painting, “Roses and Hearts on the Blue Sky," a part of the Art Blocks Houston project that was installed on the façade of 901 Main Street, Houston in the summer of 2016. I was born in Ukraine, attended 4-year intensive art training in School of Art in Ukraine, Museum of Fine Arts Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX and received a BA in Architecture and Master’s Degree in Planning. I live and work in Houston, TX, where I also maintain my art studio. .
