About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by my relationship with the late Janis Joplin who was my band-mate and close friend from 1966 to the time of her death in 1970. I wanted to do a portrait of her that expressed the many sides of her music and personality as well as her persona as an iconic blues-rock singer. I wanted to express through the composition, the images and how it is put together something about her music, her love, her joy and her pain; how her music and her ideas were still reverberating in the world. I wanted to talk about what she meant to me and how that still echoed in my life and the lives of so many people.
