Sleeping Drawing

Humphrey Isselt born in 1965 in Paramaribo Surinam. At the age of seven I immigrated to the Netherlands. My passion for drawing and painting started at an early age, while observing nature and people in general. Growing up I expressed myself through painting and drawing. I took art classes at the Augustinus College in Groningen where I learned the basics from J. Poeder. I discovered that the vibrancy of the colors and strokes used by Vincent van Gogh appealed to me. The sculptures of Auguste Rodin also made an impact. Being an observer of life and having a profound understanding of processes and structures I coached people from an early age on. At the age of twenty two my attention shifted towards computers and mobile communication. These became a starting point for my working career. However interesting the IT and mobile communication technology were they did not compare to art. So at the age of forty I found my passion again in painting, drawing, and sketching. “Creative art is appealing to me because it is a means to tell a story, change and or capture a moment” In 2010 I quit my job as a Business Consultant to become a full-time individual coach, author and artist. I have published self development books and art-books: books.humphrey-isselt.nl. My art is available on printed canvas, aluminium, fine-art photo paper and plexiglass. I experiment with many different techniques, and utilize various materials to achieve the desired effect. I enjoy working with acrylic, oil, water-colors and pastels. I like to balance colors, movement, energy and texture in my work. Recently I discovered digital painting combining two worlds. My art is characteristic because it is a mixture of techniques and influences.” I do not paint with a technique in mind, I paint with the object in mind. So the art pretty much creates itself. It evolves like nature is supposed to” I usually paint women or a suggested feminine presence. I paint women as a representation of love, seduction, beauty, live, strength, warmth, and natural softness. Aside from that I also paint ‘scapes’ (sea, land, air) and animals, because they portrait our precious living environment. I wish to translate my view of life onto canvas by telling a story with color, shape, and figures. Every stroke is a manifestation of my discoveries, challenges and deep rooted longing for a unified and loving world where people can enjoy the wealth that is available to all of us.
