Speechless Drawing

This is an experiment of pure expression. There are no grandiose ideals behind the style, which probably appears as a faulty fermentation of Miró, Utamaro (ukiyo-e), shodō, Kandinsky’s improvisations, European Arabesque and Matisse’s cutouts. At least, this is merely what I can gather. It would take a lifetime to articulate in plain words the art that has been absorbed by our individual subconscious, so I find it easier to simply draw in short, improvised bursts. This work was painted with an ink brush on rustic, handmade Lokta paper from the Himalayas. This paper is manufactured by binding long, natural fibres, which are clearly visible when looking at the artwork. (N.B. Those are not errant hairs on the artwork, they are part of the natural paper!) The artwork is approximately (rustic paper does not have even sides) 21 x 30 cm (8.27 x 11.8 inches).
