About The Artwork

Kryvyi Rih is a large iron ore mining city located in the Dnipropetrovska oblast in eastern Ukraine. I was born there. It was founded in the early 20th century when rich iron ore deposits were discovered in the region. In 1881, a railroad line was built to Kryvyi Rih, which allowed the start of rail freight transportation. This gave impetus to the development of the mining and metallurgical complex, which quickly became one of the largest in Ukraine. A unique feature of Kryvyi Rih is that five mining and processing plants (MPPs) were of city-forming importance for the city: Southern, Central, Northern, Ingulets, and the former Novokryvyi Rih. These enterprises are important for the city and the country. The city's mining and processing enterprises specialize in the extraction, processing, and production of raw materials for the steel industry: pellets and iron ore concentrate. My first acquaintance with the quarry was in 2018, when I was invited to the Metallurgist Day at Ingulets to draw postcards with sketches of quarry machines (excavators, bulldozers, trucks, etc.). I was really fascinated by it then. The second acquaintance was already through an order in April 2020, when I had to paint 8 panoramic paintings with landscapes of a granite quarry located outside the city. So this painting is dedicated to the quarries, namely transportation and the people who work there. The canvas is made with a marker, I took a marker and started drawing sketches of machines that extract coal, ore or other minerals, then added people who are working with this transport. I made several machines with acrylics, a huge excavator with a large bucket, a railroad car filled with dirt, and left the rest as they were with a red marker. In the background of the painting, you can see stones, dirt, pellets, granite and rock embankments that envelop the contour of the painting, quarry equipment in the form of bulldozers, drilling rigs, bilaz and other machines working in quarries.

My name is Shiptenko Bogdan. I was born in 1994 in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. Since childhood I loved to draw in my special notebook, where I liked to depict cartoon characters. Every day I draw, and without it I can not draw for me it's like breathing. Most of all I love black and white graphics and watercolor painting. Black and white graphics I fell in love with since the University, when I was a second-year student, we had a summer practice, we went out to draw on nature (plein air), since then I loved to draw the urban environment and everything connected with it! My works are mainly devoted to the urbanscape. And that is what the spirit of the city, delicious food, cafe atmosphere, the architecture, the noise of the streets, change of weather, crazy street bustle, rush hour, etc etc due to the fact that I paint wherever possible, traveling to different cities and countries when I eat, or rest, and so on. In the process of drawing, I give myself fully, entirely to the process, because that's what I enjoy and what I live every day. I love watercolor painting for its transparency, expression. Watercolor is a magical material, as magic happens right when you draw it, it gives a lot of interesting effects that the artist does not expect and he would not have come up with them. In graphics I love to work out every stroke, I like to stroke with very thin tools creating fine lines, for this I use ballpoint pen, markers and other.
