All wars are caused either by population pressures, or a competition for resources... or so our enemies would have us believe, I suspect. What inspired this work? Who knows why an ogre does what an ogre does. It's some sort of a commentary on the human reaction to war in this nutty, kooky capitalistic west, I suppose. If you figure it out, be sure to let me know, as it seems that I may understand my mind only slightly more than you understand it. But, keep it firmly in your mind that what it actually says to you is of far more importance to you than what I might intend it to say to you. And, to me, the opposite is most likely true. Or, perhaps I'm being purposefully cryptic here -- as maybe that's what an ogre does. Is it Dada? Is it Dada Brut? Some sort of hyper-realistic surrealism? All things are possible given just the right amount of psychosis. However, as much as can be reasonably assured, by all appearances, this work would seem to be a digital photo-collage of sorts, craftily composed of snippets of original photographic works and vintage public-domain imagery. Hopefully, the skills and talent, or lack thereof, of the artist (yours truly) has ordered this visual cacophony, made up of inter-related segments of this item and that, into something cohesive -- which may, or may not, contain a message of some gravity entwined within its carrier wave. But, failing all of that, then, as with all things, the hope is that you will enjoy it as you will.

Derek R. Audette is a multidisciplinary artist -- A grand-master accubationist, as well as something of a painter, photographer, poet, and musician. His musical work has appeared in countless film, television and video game productions, and he has written and published two books of poetry -- one of which resides in the Harris Collection of American Poetry at Brown University. A number of his works in the visual arts currently reside in a number of private collections. And, it is for these reasons, more than any, really, that it's rumored (in certain circles) that the boy figures himself as some sort of an artist, or something. The term "creative genius" has even been used -- although, such an utterance has only ever been documented to have been spoken by his Mother. Nevertheless, there is that. Among his other accomplishments, Audette has been known, from time to time, to 'act all a fool', and do a pretty bang-up job of it, too! He indulges, he outdulges, he eats and sleeps, he enjoys the occasional shindig and even the odd hullabaloo, but makes a serious effort to try and steer clear of the more shady what-have-yous and goings on. Unless, of course, they happen to feature an open bar. The local villagers say that he stands something less than 12 feet tall, and weighs in at a whopping large to approaching very large in physical dimension. And, as should be expected, he makes things -- and some of those things can be viewed and purchased here.
