Absent Painting

What/who inspired the work? When reading about the drink “green fairy” Absinthe and how the excessive ingestion supposedly caused madness I thought it fitting to place a glass on the counter as a symbol of the wicked relationship and at the end, my parents divorce. What do you hope its viewers will feel/think? Hoping to describe the hollow feeling when all is lost, darkness is closing in and all you feel is falling… Although knowing there will be a lighter time but not knowing when. Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style? By choosing acrylic paint I knew I could paint quickly as it has a fast drying time and also it allows applications of thin transparent layers, much like water paint, building transparent areas on top of those thick layers that offers an almost “plastic” feel. The cartoon like style helps me exaggerate and put extra emphasis on expressing emotions of great despair and sadness. The bold “Lego” colours demonstrates the straightforward thoughts, imagination and understanding, I as a child had of what was happening at the time.
