It is this painting that has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. This is the second painting where I'm working with the "ground" from a major art supply company. I began just swirling the ground around on the paper, not knowing how it would turn out at all. My original intention was to make this an infinity shape. But the more I got into it, the less it looked liked that. Once I put the colors down, I realized it looked more like a ribbon. I realize that it doesn't have the shininess, shimmer, or folds of a ribbon (hence the abstract), but I decided to go that direction anyway. I think it's very important for an artist to go outside their comfort zone. As an artist, you realize there's a lot more to your art than just painting, say, flowers, all the time. I am still on the fence whether I like it or not. But I will say this, the colors are great. I used all Winsor (From Winsor & Newton) shades - Winsor Green, Winsor Red, Winsor Yellow, and Winsor Purple. That told me they would blend nicely together and when mixed, create new colors, which they did. I hope you find this painting intriguing. I know I do. I also hope it finds a home with you. Continue to stare at it. You'll find new colors in it as you look at it. I use only the most professional grade paints - mostly Winsor $ & Newton and Daniel Smith and watercolor paper. In this case, it's Arches 300 lb. paper. A Certificate of Authenticity will be included as required by Saatchi.

Nancy Riedell, an internationally recognized, award winning artist originally from California and now living in Nevada, graduated from San Francisco State University where she studied Fine Arts. Classes included figure drawing, color values, acrylics, oils, and art history. Nancy’s love of art goes back to childhood as her mother encouraged her to develop her art skills by giving her art materials and art books so that she could develop her technique. Nancy’s current medium is watercolor. The bold use of colors and interesting landscapes has played a strong role in Nancy’s unique paintings. She feels that although she has been working with art since childhood, it is only within the last few years that she has felt the calling to go back into her art. Her work reflects her passion well by using strong, saturated color and theme. Nancy likes to take advantage of every opportunity and is known to photograph subjects for future paintings. She has captured beautiful sunrises in Monterey County, unique beach scenes in Santa Cruz County and unusual rock formations in New Mexico. Nancy’s art has been displayed in galleries in both the United States, England, and most recently, France. Nancy has been in four publications and has received seven awards to date. Nancy is a current member of the California Watercolor Assn, the National Watercolor Assn, and the Sierra Watercolor Society.
