I create landscape compositions by sketching outside and then work up paintings in the studio using acrylic and ink on heavy watercolour paper applied to board. I use intense, non-local colours and often start my paintings off with a loose expressive sketch using black ink applied with a willow stick. This approach keeps the drawings fresh and creates a sense of movement and freedom. I collect compositions when out walking and sketching and am particularly inspired by the marshes which inspired other Norwich School Painters such as Seago and Arnesby Brown.
