On a painting workshop in Ireland, I was inspired to respond to the subtle greens and grays and browns around me. I began working on Yupo paper, manipulating the paint with a color shaper (a cross between a paintbrush and a spatula) and these wonderful textures appeared, reminding me of tree bark. I then mounted the piece on a cradled wood panel and painted the sides to match, creating a three-dimensional feel to the work.

I'm a painter and printmaker based in Woodstock, New York and New York City. My work is a slightly hallucinatory, abstract exploration of the natural world and the feelings it evokes. Past works explored human forms set translucently into natural settings and textures inspired by nature. Though I've been an artist all my life in some form or another, my earlier professional life included work as a creative director for major consumer magazines. maxinedavidowitz.com
