About The Artwork

The Blue Macaw is one of the most glorious coloured birds commonly found in South America, particularly in Madagascar. They come in the most exotic colours and their feathers had a nice sheen and were long at the tail, different colours too for every part of their body. When they flew in the jungle, there was not one bird who did not look their way, and there was not one animal who could resist stealing a glance. Sadly, this species has not been spared from extinction due to poaching and illegal trafficking to other countries due to the demand for these birds despite the high price tag. Another worrying factor is the few birds left in the virgin Amazonian jungles are in a precarious situation as these jungles are being destroyed by humans for their profit with little regard to the animals and other habitats of the forest. The jungle too is facing extinction, so how can it be home to the animals. This painting clearly shows a gaping hole where trees as high as 20 feet and old as 200 years used to stand. Looking down the floor of the forest is devoid of foliage and in some parts , barren and dry to the bone. Baby Macaw here who has not been beyond this tree he perches on ( which is fast shedding its leaves)desperately wants to fly out as he gets easily distressed because of the heat and his friends have left him, one by one. Where have they gone, nobody has the heart to tell him. Daddy Macaw used to take his son out for a spin and do a sortie down to this same tree but of late he has been a little weak. His buddies used to call him Blue after the movie 'Madagascar', and he just loved it then and could mimic Blue in Madagascar big time. Now, due to heavier and denser carbon footpath left by humans, logging, poaching, and just plain ignorance for the likes of him and his friends from other species has taken the joy out of living and knowing you a protected species - "The chip on my wrist is to take care of me but where are these people, can't they see I'm ill?", Daddy Blue said under his breath. He looks sadly at Baby Macaw and his heart melted right there. Baby does not know that I am ill, he thought. He must never know as I'm the only one he has now. Daddy was fighting to keep his tears in check but we can see that his eyes are sad and he just cannot bear to see Baby cry. Baby is inquisitive and has never seen so much sky above them, space, free, fly !! Daddy Blue knew that if he flew out, there was not a chance that he will survive the harsher environment outside the jungle. He could die the same day, how is he to look for food and water in the city? Now, if Baby and Daddy remain in the jungle they would just perhaps live a day, maybe two days longer. "Great, an extra 2 days of life... what is the meaning of this..", Daddy says quietly. Baby Blue quietens down, hangs his head and stopped flapping seeing his attempt to fly out was futile. Baby Blue is not silly, he knew when Cody and Toky did not knock their noisy beaks on his tree one morning , that something had happened to them. Baby, Cody and Toky used to perch on this same branch, look out to the open sky and knew that one day they will head there- and they will get to heaven. They have lived all their lives in this Amazonian jungle and it's certainly not heaven. "Heaven is up there ! In the sky, we have to fly out to get to heaven!", they so loved how this made Baby Blue mad at them. They would fly together after that and laugh it off and do the same thing the very next day. Baby Blue missed them so bad. He looked at his Daddy and both caught the other off-guard with tears in the eyes. They shared an unspoken, knowing look straight into the eyes of father and son, straight in to the heart was their love for each other. And then with one fall swoop the two Macaws flapped their glorious wings wide open which caused the branches and tress to rattle and dry leaves flew everywhere. The whole jungle stopped and stared at them, knowingly in each of them bid farewell in their hearts, and saw them leave the jungle forever. Daddy and Baby Macaw felt their love as they exited but never looked back . They headed out towards the hole above the jungle where light came through, and the sun on them got brighter and brighter as the jungle got smaller and smaller beneath them. They were happy, so happy. They get to fly like crazy and see exciting new places outside of the jungle and then go to heaven. Daddy and Baby Macaw could never forget this moment, as it was their happiest moment together on Earth...

I am a self-taught artist who just recently picked up the brush and canvas again after a lay-off of 5 years. I used to work with air-brush, spray paint and had a preference for black and white abstract art. Lately, my work has been a burst of colours ( an accident in a paint factory, if you like). I believe this is the direct result of working under the influence of music. I have been studying music production since August 2013 and was making my own original pieces when I was inspired to paint again... I never stopped although the music has. Ha ha.. I am also grateful to my real friends who encouraged me and just told me to let it flow. How would my art affect you ? With a good feeling I hope, but I won't know until you have a look and tell me....
