Painting: Acrylic, Plaster (Band-Aid) After art school, I set out to discover myself as an artist. I consider myself a figurative artist; there is always an underlying human condition in my work. My love of 'Street art' and 'Found art' resounds through my work, whether it be a figurative oil painting, or site-specific sculpture. The grainy, worn down edge excites me in the artwork. The scratching of the linework that was not quite tidied up at the close of the piece, gives the work a unique quality that cannot be replicated. Whether it is the canvas that the artist chooses to illustrate their point, or how the image, scene or subject is represented, a unique identity can be found in the description of small details. This only serves that individual piece with the perfection that cannot be replicated. (These small Band-Aid studies could be a microcosm of this.) The Plaster studies that I have created, come from my youth, as an athlete on an international swimming program. I was often privy to the collection of waste and scum that can be found grouped, bobbing up and down in the corner of a swimming pool. Amongst this collection of unwanted filth was usually the odd blood-stained Plaster (Band-Aid). These discarded and sometimes lost items would be very small comfort, as I repeatedly pass them. My trail of thought would transcend past the pain of yet another repeated length in a 400m set. This had me ask the questions, 'whos life did these objects belong to?'. ' Why are they here now?'. 'How did they get to be here in their watery grave?'. Once I swear a blood-stained face, winked at me from the fabric of a drowned Band-aid, as glided into yet another. tumble turn. Boris Johnson's influence in the UK could be seen very much in the same light as President Trump's in America. They both have a 'Marmite' relationship with their countries. Is Boris an affliction on the UK, or is he helping the country heal?
