About The Artwork

My artwork is autobiographical. Acknowledging past and current traditions, I refer to underlying themes in art history, mixing and merging concepts. I select symbolic colors heavily embellished by patterns found in domestic spaces, starting with the Arts and Crafts movement to the 1960s and 1970s up to current happenings. In contradiction to the idiosyncrasies of Geometric Abstraction, I enjoy manipulating the illusion of space, designing works of art that embrace a shift of flat and deep spaces, often in response to my observations of the atmosphere. The intersection of fine art, architecture, and design influences my artwork as I relate to my everyday life, pulling colors, shapes, and patterns from my interior spaces. Creating shaped work allows me to guide the viewer in experiencing my world, experiencing deep and shallow areas while pausing at planes of colors that are unadorned or filled with detailed motifs following the rhythm of my daily happenings.

My geometric-shaped paintings embrace contemporary art practices of relevant pluralism. The artwork is an intersection of fine art, architecture, and design, referencing underlying themes in art history and mixing and merging concepts. Admiring past practices of 20th-century geometric abstraction, I recognize and challenge the movement for its reductive strains and return to the initial discourse that led to the investigation. My paintings include symbolic colors and the illusion of space that otherwise would be excluded from the movement. The edges of my artwork define a rotation of deep and shallow areas, navigated by an atmospheric apparition creating the impression of space. Incorporating ornate motifs and flat planes of color, I invite the viewer to pause - to linger, accompanying the rhythm of my daily happenings.
